IVFDad - OUT NOW!
Great expectations? I had them too, it’s normal.
Did you know, 30% of fertility issues are male related in the UK? Episode 2 talks about how daunting the first fertility consultation can be and the reality of what you’re getting yourself into, plus how to get the best out of it.
The male MOT... I was surprised at how much testing was needed during our IVF treatment, fear and inadequacy can come along with this.
@thefertilitynetwork writes a great article on the lack of support provided for men in the sector.

When you start your fertility journey, you will hear so many conspiracies about why your sperm ‘doesn’t work’ and it will make you worry. But you can’t avoid everything in life because it may or may not affect your ability to conceive.
Fertility treatment can be an emotional rollercoaster for men, especially when you’re first starting out. Remember it is a journey and don’t expect anything to happen quickly.
It’s a team effort, no one is to blame. It is important to remember that and work with your partner to keep a positive outlook.
I thought going to The Fertility Show would be like visiting the Tesco superstore... getting everything in one place. How wrong I was, but it was definitely a start.
Sometimes it can feel like you're playing roulette with your life savings, but choosing the right treatment is important. @thefertilitynetwork has a really useful article on how to choose the right clinic.

The reality is, not all fertility issues can be explained. It’s scary, but true. Listen to episode 4 of #IVFDAD to find out how I dealt with the uncertainty.

You may have been shocked after my previous post, £400 for drugs?! The episode also equips you with 9 great money saving tips - have a listen if you haven’t already
Male mental health is a huge topic, and #IVFDAD tackles this head on. The importance of working as a team with your partner throughout fertility treatment is vital. If you’re feeling lonely or struggling throughout the process visit https://www.menshealthforum.org.uk/
If you’ve been through fertility treatment, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
Our journey wasn’t quick and easy by any means.
Did you know research carried out since 1973 found an estimated 50-60% drop in sperm count in developed nations?
The whole process forced us to learn new skills, ones I never thought I’d need. Timing and measurement was key.
I found a really useful article by @familyequality on how to inject your partner, check it out https://www.familyequality.org/resources/how-to-give-and-receive-an-injection-a-guide-for-fertility-treatment-patients-and-their-partners/
Five tips on how to inject your partner without it leading to divorce - listen to episode 5
An exciting but confusing moment in our IVF journey - what does the next round mean? It was like an episode of the X-Factor!
More on this in episode 6
ICSI is a more direct way of getting the sperm into the egg compared with regular IVF - In the US, the popularity of the treatment actually increased from 36.4% in 1996, to 76.2% in 2012.
To gain a more personal and professional insight, listen to episode 6 where our embryologist explains the process.
No sex for three days before were the rules. That didn’t seem so difficult with the new organised lifestyle we were now living.
IVFDAD isn’t just an account of my story with my opinions, it includes interviews with professionals in the field.
This week’s episode includes our cheery embryologist Emma.
IVF isn’t an emotionally easy journey - shock and uncertainty can take its toll. As a male, I found myself trying to hold back these emotions, believing that I was in charge of keeping my partner and I stable.
An interesting fact that puts numbers into perspective. Maybe it doesn’t matter how many eggs you have, maybe you’ll always get the same result? I always thought ‘the more the merrier’ but after my IVF journey, I learnt I was wrong - have a listen to find out why
HOPE 🙏🏻
When times seem tough and you’re close to giving up, remember it only takes one.
@newhopefertility believes in a ‘One Good Egg Policy’ - “Simply put, in order for a woman to become pregnant and have a healthy baby, all that is required is one good egg and one healthy sperm”
